The library is an area in the front of the court lobby which has been separated by red and blue bookcases, to provide the children with some privacy. The books have been largely donated by the United Way of Greater Chattanooga and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. There tables and chairs for the children to use as well.
The library serves a dual purpose of relieving the lobby of congestion and encouraging young children, who often have to sit in the lobby with their parents for hours while waiting for cases to be called, to read. Encouraging children to read is very important to the Juvenile Court, which recognizes that if a lot of children were encouraged to read more at an early age, they might not find themselves in Juvenile detention when they are teenagers. This is a positive step for the Juvenile Court and fits in perfectly with the principles of serving the best interest of the children in Chattanooga.
